Durham-Middlefield, Prevention & Program Coordinator

Durham Middlefield Youth and Family Services is seeking a highly motivated and driven individual to serve as the Program & Prevention Coordinator. This is a dual responsibility opportunity that will lead the agency’s prevention and programming initiatives. They will serve as a leader in prevention for the community, youth, schools and will be the DMYFS representatives to state agencies. This individual will also be responsible for planning, executing, and maintaining regular Youth Service programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Position reports directly to Executive Director
  • Using all resources and supports, identify and implement a plan for youth prevention in Durham-Middlefield.
  • Serve as the liaison between the agency, schools, outside agencies, youth, parents, and community
  • Conduct assessment and strategic planning for a comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention program including the development of strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives.
  • Mobilize volunteers and community groups including all sectors of the community to strengthen and expand the coalition (capacity building)
  • Provide substance abuse education and prevention to students through in-school and afterschool clubs
  • Adhere to the requirements of the grantor as determined by the approved implementation plan and submit planning documents and all data reporting in the applicable prevention data collections system
  • Attend training, technical assistance meetings and conferences (may require limited out of state travel)
  • Collaborate with our evaluator to ensure all evaluation deliverables are met consistently
  • Serve as a resource and support for students who have concerns regarding their own or someone else's substance abuse and/or who may be at risk for abuse or dependence
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate youth programs / services that aid in healthy mental and emotional growth, ensure the health and welfare of children, promote positive youth development, and avoid involvement in the juvenile justice system
  • Organize and promote community activities
  • Network with local / regional youth servicing agencies and schools
  • Maintain accurate and complete program files
  • Assist in the development of promotional materials and other media relations
  • Maintain Social Media presence for agency and coalition

Experience / Requirements

  • Knowledgeable of youth development framework and experience with educating youth.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating events, focus groups, and presentations.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with youth, parents, and community.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated time management, organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Experience producing marketing campaigns.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills including presentation and public speaking.

Experience running programs with children ages 6-18 is preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • B.A. in Social work, Psychology or related Human Services field preferred
  • Experience working with youth and families in supervisory settings.
  • Background in youth services
  • Must have a valid Connecticut state driver’s license.
  • Proof of up-to-date COVID vaccinations
